The Price of Neutrality

Neutrality cannot stop German trains that try to cross borders. Neutrality simply helps make you a watching bystander. Neutrality is a huge mistake for a decision this serious. When countries like Switzerland or Brazil say they are trying to stay out of the war and keep the peace, it is all a diplomatic lie. They are acting in their self-interest, only looking out for their own citizens while ignoring all other innocents. That poses the question: Why make alliances if you cannot support them? They are merely creating loopholes and paths allowing the Germans to invade other countries. Hence, allowing them easy access and aiding them to take over countries in a way.

Brazil, a country quick to seek help from its American and British allies, refused to send armed forces to Poland and Switzerland under the pretext of ‘Regional Security’, which is why Brazil chose to defend along its Atlantic Borders instead. It is important to note that Brazil was under no threat from Japan or Germany.

On the other hand, Switzerland diplomatically refuses to partake in this war while secretly allowing the Germans to establish bases in Switzerland. Due to this, Swiss bases have been compromised. If they claim to be neutral, why is Germany using their railways? Why is Germany using their postal systems? Hiding behind so-called neutrality can't keep countries safe forever because then their allies actually have no obligation to help them, as they didn’t help the allies when needed.

Think of Poland. It has been a weak country since its independence. They lacked strong relationships with allies and a coordinated military, resulting in large losses of territory. There was absolutely no unity or actual collaboration among the allies. Poland’s allies didn’t act fast enough, and they didn’t have a plan. Czechoslovakia simply used this as an opportunity and took it over even easily. Shortly after, the USSR and Nazi Germany also took over, leading to complete control over Poland. Thus, coordinated attacks or defence, strategic planning, collaboration, coordination and fast help in the future is essential to ensure the safety of other countries.
